The Pomo D'oro Restaurant

Only recently opened, this is already established as one of the island's few top flight restaurants. Located in the cente of the old town, its gifted young chef/proprietor Megoulas Aristoteles developed his skills in Bologna and now creates his exceptional dishes based on traditional Mediterranean recipes using Italian technique. A recent French restaurant guide describes his plats as works of art. No doubt he has inherited some of his flair from his father, a renowned Greek sculptor.

The Siorra Vittoria Boutique Hotel
The Siorra Vittoria Hotel

This gem of a hotel is the first of its kind in Corfu. Only nine extremely elegant rooms set in a Venetian town house built in 1823. It was one of the homes of an aristocratic Greek family now owned by one of its scions Luca Metaxas whose grandmother Siorra Victoria occupied it for many years. After a period in New York Luca decided to forego success in the financial world and to supervise and direct a lavish project for the refurbishment and decoration of this place with tremendous style and superb taste. It opened in August 2005. There is an amazing magnolia tree in the garden dating back to 1780.

The Invisible Kitchen
The Invisible Kitchen

Virtually impossible to find, this restaurant is in the hamlet of Pythos which lurks off a back road in the north of the island.it is in a converted olive press adjoining the home of its proprietors Ben and Claudia Philo, both top class chefs, who met in the kitchen of Antony Worrall Thompson in London after honing their skills in establishments in various parts of the world..their dishes are largely their own creations based on modern Mediterranean style with a Moroccan influence..absolutely delicious..sadly the restaurant is open only in the winter months and then just on Saturday evenings and Sunday midday..this is because their main business is as caterers for villa parties and private events which keeps them fully occupied during the summer...which is fine for those lounging in their villas but not so wonderful for locals not yet aware of the benefits of calling in superb caterers for that special occasion.

Il Vesuvio Italian Restaurant
Il Vesuvio Italian Restaurant

This little piece of Italy is hard to find but it is well worth the effort. A restaurant providing super Italian cuisine is owned and operated by Patrizio Tondi, a great character who came to Corfu from Naples 20 years ago and, after running the islands largest nightclub/disco for most of that time, opened Il Vesuvio in the village of Patamos just to the north of Corfu Town effectively as a hobby and because it still gives him pleasure seeing his customers enjoying dishes from his unique Neopolitan wood ovens.

The Kontokali Bay Hotel
The Kontokali Bay Hotel

This is a very special luxury hotel positioned near to the Gouvia Marina favoured by a substantial number of sophisticated guests who return every year as they know there is nowhere in Europe which has better facilities for a beach style holiday. It is most fortunate in having Gannis Ginis as manager.....he has the rare knack of being able to inspire his staff to provide the ultimate in caring service. Though we have unique arrangements with the management, it is recommended you give us notice well ahead of your preferred arrival date as the demand for rooms cannot always be satisfied.

The Sze Chuan Restaurant
Sze Chuan Restaurant

One does not expect to find a really good Chinese establishment on a small Greek island but Spiridon Plaskas is not your typical restauranteur. Born and educated in Corfu, he travelled the world and developed a passion for Chinese cuisine. He opened his first Chinese restaurant here 20 years ago and only employs chefs from Shanghai or Hong Kong. His dishes are authentic and extremely tasty and he insists on fresh produce and no additives such as MSG. He still enjoys meeting new customers particularly those from distant parts. As you can see, he is a handsome and charming man.

The Corfu Palace Hotel
The Corfu Palace Hotel

This was one of the finest hotels in Greece. Its proprietor Christos Fokas realised a childhood ambition when he bought it in 1991. From humble origins in Corfu, a successful business venture in Switzerland enabled him to raise the finance which put this grand place back into Corfiot hands. Its current reputation is due largely to the remarkable talents of its last general manager Costas Dendrinos. As well as the usual luxuries, a singular feature is the entertainment provided in its popular bar by Tzoulis Plaskasovitis a gifted pianist and Louise Cone who sings with a voice comparable to those of the sirens who tried to lure Ulysses on to the rocks whilst he and his companions were sailing back from their adventures in Troy.

Bellissimo Restaurant
Bellissimo Restaurant

Nothing fancy at this traditional Greek taverna hidden away in the tiny Lemon Tree Square in the centre of the Old Town. Father and son Costas and Stavros Stergiou operate their well established restaurant to a consistently high standard by only using the freshest local produce and having all their dishes cooked on the premises--the puddings are quite exceptional. You will be charmed by their friendly welcome.

Cafe au Chocolat
Cafe au Chocolat

This bar is one of a number of places belonging to Demitris Constantinos, a deservedly successful Corfiot restaurateur. It is at the North end of the Esplanade which already had an extensive range of bars and cafes when he opened it three years ago. Its popularity has been developed through his innovative concepts such as having luxurious chairs and sofas outside and a variety of absolutely delicious chocolate creations. He also ensures that his staff are young, attractive and helpful.

The Spiros & Vasilis Restaurant
Spiros & Vasilis Restaurant

Most unusual and well worth a visit both for its wonderful French cuisine and the atmosphere of the converted old farmhouse situated on land which has been a farm belonging for generations to the family Polymeris ....now run by brothers Spiros and Vasilis who also have a restaurant in Athens. Spiros' son Ulysses an accomplished chef is being groomed to take over in due course. The restaurant has a delightful rural setting off the road to Glyfada 9 km from Corfu Town.

Stablus Restaurant

A group of buildings built in 1725 by the foot of the New Fort as stables for the horses of Venetian officers. One of these, the celebrated lover Casanova stationed in Corfu in 1748 described these stables in his autobiography. Totally transformed in 2004 to designs by Marilena Koskina and Silvia Sgouropoulou rightly recognised as Corfu's leading interior consultants, it is now a truly exciting array of bars on different levels filled mainly with the younger echelons of Corfiot society.
